A Workshop on Free Zones Gathering Relevant Libyan Economic Institutions
A workshop on free economic zones was held in Tunis on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 21-22, 2023. This workshop is part of the E-NABLE project funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France for a sustainable, diversified, and digital economic recovery in Libya.
The participants discussed the main elements of the national strategic plan for free zones and reviewed the most critical issues and challenges of free zones and transit trade in Libya.
Among the participants of the workshop were Mr. Suhail Chiha, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Trade for Commercial Affairs, Mr. Nouri El Katati, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy and Trade for Free Zones Affairs, Mr. Fawzi Wadi, Director of the Office of the Minister of Economy and Trade, Mr. Musa Al-Zubik, Director of the Private Sector Development and Investment Department at the Ministry, Mr. Hussein Al-Amami, Director of the Economic Reforms Department at the Ministry, Mr. Muhammad Zanati, Representative of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Moataz Al-Rayes, Director of the Department Economic Planning at the Ministry of Planning, Mr. Ammar Zokra, representative of the International Cooperation Office at the Ministry of Planning, and Mr. Adel Kashir, Director of the Human Resources Department at the Ministry of Economy and Trade, and Mrs. Sabah Saad, Director of the Women’s Support Office at the Ministry of Economy and Trade, and a group of representatives of the Marisa Free Zone, the Misurata Free Zone, the Customs Authority and the Urban Planning Authority.
This workshop aims to look into the mechanisms of developing a comprehensive national strategy for free zones to expand trading, improve the investment climate and support economic growth and diversification.
