Government Tax Data Integration Hackathon

In an atmosphere of enthusiasm and innovation, the Government Tax Data Integration Hackathon concluded today, Monday, January 13, 2025. The event witnessed a broad attendance from partners, organizers, media representatives, and sponsors, as the participating teams were honored.

The projects presented by the teams to the judging panel aimed to enhance digital integration within the tax system and facilitate tax payment mechanisms. These efforts sought to improve the efficiency of the tax system by introducing innovative technological solutions and systems to connect data across all relevant entities.

The Tax Authority Team won first place, receiving an award of 30,000 Libyan Dinars. They were followed by the Information and Documentation Center Team from the Ministry of Finance, which won an award of 18,000 Libyan Dinars. The third place went to the Gov Tech Pioneers Team, which received an award of 9,000 Libyan Dinars.

The closing ceremony of the hackathon was inaugurated by Mr. Abdulbaset Albaour, President of the General Information Authority, who praised the role of such events in fostering innovation and encouraging youth to contribute by offering technological solutions that enhance the level of services provided to citizens. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Saad Lihniash, Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade; Mr. Omar Alzarrouq, Vice President of the Tax Authority; Mr. Mohamed Suweed, Representative of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Mr. Marton Benedek, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Libya; Mr. Stergios Tragoudas, Program Manager for Private Sector Support and Higher Education; Mr. Jean-Bernard Bolvin, Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs from the French Embassy in Libya; Mr. Maxime Bost, Program Manager for Expertise France in Libya; and several other stakeholders and interested individuals.

This hackathon was organized in partnership between the General Information Authority and the Libyan Digital Innovation Lab (LDIL), in collaboration with Expertise France, as part of the E-nable Project funded by the European Union in Libya. Key partners included the Tax Authority, Commercial Registry, Central Bank of Libya, Customs Authority, and the Ministry of Finance.
